Board
Report.
We are purchasing cockpit liners for the 2-33 that should give the
glider a more finished appearance. This
is the first step in a gradual program to improve our fleet.
Let the Board members know if there is something you know needs to be
done to upgrade our equipment.
The Board has agreed to
sell the ATV since it is not being used.
Any club member who would like to purchase the ATV should approach the
Board with a suggested purchase price. If
no acceptable bids are received by the January 8 Board meeting, we will
proceed to make the sale to the general public.
I hope you had an
opportunity to see the sketch prepared by John Boyce for the bronze memorial
plaque. This was displayed in the
clubhouse for a little more than a month.
The plaque will read: “In memory of ASC members who have made their
final glide.” John will now
proceed with preliminary work for the plaque and we should have a finished
plaque next September.
Peter Bilan has been
trying to find a replacement canopy for our operations area sun shade.
If you know where to get that size, please contact Peter.
The Board has agreed to
give two free sailplane rides as prizes in the NWNM Science and Engineering
Fair to be held in March. Steve
Schery will act as judge for these prizes.
The club has a new
physical address: 50 George
Applebay Way, Hangar 0. Our
mailing address is unchanged!
Bylaws change:
The following change to
the By-Laws was passed at the Dec 17 General Membership meeting:
Article II of the By-Laws
is amended to add a new paragraph 2.8, to read as follows:
2.8
A Student Member is a member who has been accepted by the Board as a
student member, who is not more than 25 years old and is registered as a full
time student at an accredited educational institution.
A Student Member pays no initiation fee and no monthly dues but pays
Regular Member club rates and performs Regular Member duties. A Student Member is not liable for special club assessments.
Annual
Awards Banquet
Sheri Nevins is organizing
this year’s annual awards banquet to be held January 23 at Garduno’s at
Balloon Fiesta Park. Our speakers
will be Ted Spitzmiller, who will talk about the work of the Wright Brothers
in achieving powered flight, and Carl Ekdahl, who will show slides of the
Return-to-Kitty Hawk soaring regatta. Howard Banks has agreed to be our
Master-of-Ceremonies. You will
find an announcement for the banquet on the club website. Sign up early and avoid the last-minute rush.
