|Some of you may be aware that in recent years AOPA has been organizing about 4 fly-ins per year around the country. In 2018, September 14 and 15 to be exact, they will be coming to our very own Santa Fe airport (right after those knuckle heads just decided to permanently close runway 10/28). If you've never been to one of these, it is a 2-day event, starting on Friday and going until Saturday evening. They usually have tons of static displays, all sorts of vendors for the certified and experimental folks, seminars, all-day workshops, food and entertainment, camping on the field, dinner Friday night, breakfast Saturday morning, and more. Attendance is usually high enough that special approach procedures are published so that the airport can handle the high volume of traffic. I attended the one in Colorado Springs a few years ago (camped under my wing) and had a great time. As close as it is, all of us could either drive or fly.
