Bob,
First, I will be happy to assist on the banquet! Second, despite the fact that we are no longer a SSA chapter, we are still a very sizable club flying out of the #1 site in the USA (IMHO). I will be happy to personally work with the SSA to ensure that we receive coverage in Soaring! Thx - 3R

Maybe we could get The Albuquerque Journal to do a Sunday Edition Feature,... "A Golden Anniverary for the ASC". Tom Lang (the publisher) is a aviation enthusiast, and might do this for us. Would be great PR for the club.

I agree, but I will nee some volunteers to help plan an event such as this. The SSA probably will not want to recognize us because we are no longer an SSA Club and they have been hostile towards us for gong that direction.

Agree....We have a lot to celebrate at the banquet....The club's success in the OLC and the club's 50th birthday will definitely be celebrated! Not too bad! 3R

Perhaps the annual banquet might be a good venue
For putting together a fifty year celebration?

All - There has been a fair amount of publicity on the White Sands Soaring Association hitting 50 years old. For example, there is a very nice article in October's Soaring Magazine and today on AOPA's EBrief this was posted:

"The White Sands Soaring Association glides to its 50th anniversary this month at the Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport in Alamogordo, N.M. The gliders club boasts about 27 members, and the club owns three gliders as well as a tow plane. "This is an easy way to fly," said pilot Steve Jaszai. With power, you pay by the hour, but here, you pay by the tow."

Well, I got curious and checked our history and lo and behold our club was started in 1960, so 2010 is our year to celebrate 50 years!!

So, we do all need to plan on a birthday party in 2010 and we do want to ensure that the word gets out. Hopefully, we can also have an article in Soaring and get coverage from the local media!!! Next year will be here in less than 3 months so we've got time to plan for a great year!!! 3R
